“St. Claire Place”
Let’s begin with the neighbourhood. It is about twenty blocks away from downtown and backs onto the 402 behind a tall barrier wall. The project is built on a narrow and deep lot with some units at the back of this complex built perpendicular to the highway. With this side design, the front and centre units in this complex are relatively oblivious to the barrier wall at the back of the complex and what goes on behind it.
To the immediate west are clustering’s of eight storey apartment buildings called the “Inn on the Park” catering to seniors. Just beyond that is the “Metro Northgate Shopping Centre”. Who needs a car?
In this neighbourhood 29% of the population is 65+. 83% rent, 57% of the neighbourhood was built between 1961 – 1990 and 68% of the housing stock are apartments and 21% are townhouses. The average household income is a little bit lower than it is in many other parts of the city. English is the dominate language spoken at 90%. Only 11% of the population claims immigrant status.
These two storey units have orange brick, light lime siding, two shingle colours of grey and pinkish rose, light tan/cream downspouts, white doors and trim, and there are fenced in courtyards, four units in the center of each cluster have a slight change in front lower roof designs with covered entrances. Units 29 – 33 are the four units running along the back of the complex where there is also a small children’s play area and visitors parking.
